Independent science journalism on deep ocean science.
This site publishes independent science journalism on deep-sea ecosystems, ocean chemistry, hydrothermal vents, ocean acidification. Every article is written by a credentialed researcher and draws on peer-reviewed literature, primary scientific sources, and expert institutional data. Our mission is to make rigorous science accessible, accurate, and engaging for a global readership.
Dr. Marina Russo โ PhD Marine Biology, University of Naples Federico II
Dr. Marina Russo is a marine biologist specialising in deep-sea ecosystems, ocean chemistry, and the biodiversity of abyssal environments. She completed her PhD at the University of Naples Federico II in 2011 and has since conducted fieldwork aboard research vessels in the Mediterranean, Atlantic, and Indian Oceans. Her published work spans hydrothermal vent ecology, ocean acidification impacts on calcifying organisms, and the biogeography of deep-sea invertebrates. Dr. Russo has collaborated with the Italian National Institute of Oceanography (OGS), the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution, and the IUCN Marine Species Authority. She has authored over 30 peer-reviewed papers and regularly contributes to public science communication to bridge the gap between deep-sea research and public understanding. Ocean Depth was founded in 2023 to bring rigorous, accessible marine science journalism to a global audience.

Every article published on this site is based on peer-reviewed scientific literature, data from recognised research institutions (IPCC, NOAA, IUCN, NASA, WWF, WCS, and others), and the author's own research experience. We do not publish opinion, speculation, or content that has not been verified against primary scientific sources.
When scientific findings are contested or uncertain, we represent that uncertainty clearly and cite the range of current expert opinion. Corrections to published articles are made promptly and transparently.
Our editorial focus is deep-sea ecosystems, ocean chemistry, hydrothermal vents, ocean acidification. We publish in-depth science articles, research summaries, and expert explainers aimed at readers with a genuine interest in science โ from students and educators to researchers and conservation professionals.
